In this century, most children buy or receive a cell phone by their thirteenth birthday.  Some may have one as early as their ninth.  This new branch of technology is absorbing the attention of children, youth, adults, and even senior citizens.  Although most are intrigued by this attention-getter, is attention of these people the only thing being absorbed?  Cell phones endanger people of all ages for two reasons: radio waves and dangers involved while driving and phone usage.

Anyone who talks on their cell phone is being exposed to microwave radiation.  The antenna of a person’s cell phone transmits as radio frequency radiation between 800 MHz AND 1990MHz (Brains Exposure to Cell Phone Radiation).  This type of frequency falls in the range of microwave radiation and when you are exposed to it, there may be a chance of severe health consequences.  Only a few of these consequences involving ones health might include lowering sperm count in males, causing digestive problems and raise cholesterol levels, and even stimulate asthma by producing histamine in mast cells.

When analyzing the dangers of radiation, it is important to factor in whether or not an antenna is present.  Many of the new designs of cell phones do not have antennas, but older designs still have them included and are still being purchased.  Cell phones with antennas are dangerous.  The proximity of the antenna to your head as you communicate on your phone determines how much radiation you absorb: “between 20% and 60% of the radiation emitted by your cell phone is transferred to your head” (Amy Worthington).

Traveling into your head, the radiation put off by mobile devices reaches an inch to and inch and a half into your brain.  However, even if an antenna is not present, cell phones can still emit dangerous radiation.

Wow, it’s hard to believe that something the world uses so much, and the world depends on, is so dangerous to health of the callers. I will definately text more than talk now. =]

Wow, this is scary but good to know…all at the same time! Now everytime I put my cell phone to my ear, walk by a radio station, or cook anything in a microwave, I’ll think of your blog. Way to spread sunshine, Kambri. Just kidding :-)

Testing to see if this works.

well here’s some stuff i didn’t know. so are we microwaving our brians if we talk with cell phones by our heads? i guess it would be a good idea to get one of those small earpieces then.

Wow Kam! Good thing you just text! But I never knew all that stuff about radiation! Thats crazy, quite unbelievable! Athought the part about driving and phones you did not put on here, I think that is very dangerous, but when people talk about making it a law to not have your cell phone I think is crazy. Because there are always emergencys!

Wow. I didn’t know talking on cell phones could cause so much damage. I always think of a cell phone as something good, not a harmful object. Texting can’t do too much damage, so I think I will stick with to try to lessen my talk time.

I know, right? I’m super glad that I text more than I talk on my cell phone. I suggest you all do the same:). Reduce your talking time to the minimum!! BUT- DO NOT TEXT AND DRIVE! It equals bad news! Anyways..be careful:).

  8. Tyler Says:

Good point about texting while driving. DONT DO IT! I’ve done it before and I almost caused a wreck.

  9. Mrs. Gillmore Says:

So radiating your brain is bad…horrible, in fact, but radating your fingers is okay?
